Work at Home Scams

Now that we've talked about what legitimate work at home jobs look like. It's now time to go over the common work at home scams and how best to research a job for it's legitimacy.

It's no secret and should come as no surprise that work at home scams run wild online. When searching for a work at home job it's the scam you'll often run into first. And if you aren't aware of what a scam looks like and how to avoid them then you'll likely fall victim to the scam.

Virtually no one is immune to scams...not even me. Yes, I've fallen victim to a couple of work at home scams in the beginning of my job hunt several years ago. The scammers are good at what they do. They make a lot of money off our naivety and our hopes for money from home.

Having said that it doesn't have to be that way. Lets look over some of the common scams you'll find online:

Envelope Stuffing: You'll be paid her envelope you stuff...so they say. What often happens is you're placing ads for envelope stuffing "jobs" and you'll make money when these other Moms are paying you for the "start up pack" to make money this way. Basically, you'll be paid to scam people just like you were scammed.

Typing for Pay: Often you'll be paid when you go place ads online and someone clicks thru, signs up to make money typing for pay, and they go and do the same thing. This isn't always the case, but often it is. You're simply perpetrating the rip off that was done to you...like the envelope stuffing scam.

Data Entry: This isn't always a scam. There are legit jobs on the net. But most of the time you're going to run into the data entry scams. If they ask you for money, it's a scam. If you have to apply, go through an interview, and wait months before you get the job it's more likely to be legit.

These scams will be the most common you'll run into online. You'll find them on every search engine, you'll find them on many websites, and what you need to do is see the ad and know it's a scam and just run far far away.

Stay Away From Work at Home Scams

1. Let go of the idea you'll make a lot of money doing simple things like typing, data entry, and envelope stuffing. They don't exist. You won't become rich. You won't find any legit job where you make a lot of money working little hours.

2. Don't pay for a job. If they ask for money for training, start up materials, applications and fees then it's most likely a scam. You just need to stick with the jobs that don't ask for money...it's your best bet.

3. Don't look through the search engines to find jobs. You'll have a very hard time that way. Stick with job sites like our sister site at JustOnlineJobs.com and boards like monster.com., careerbuilder.com, and freelance sites like elance.com.

4. Research the jobs. Go to places like the bbb.org, the ripoffreport.com, forums like JustOnlineJobs.com and go to google.com - type in the name of the company with the word scam behind it and see what pulls up.

Step Three: Find Real Work at Home Jobs
