How to Set Up a Membership Site with amember
Amember is a flexible membership and subscription management PHP script. It
enables you to set up a membership site with areas designated for paid
members as well as free members.
Step #1 The first step to setting up a membership site with amember is to
get an account. They offer a free trial version as well as an online
demo.
Step #2 Once you have your login, your next step is to install the
software. There are a few basic requirements for installation.
They include:
-MySQL version 3.23 or newer;
-Apache WebServer
-Ability to run one ionCube Loader or Zend Optimizer.
-PHP version 4.1.0 or newer
Step #3 Installation is a fairly straightforward process. Here are the
steps:
-Unpack the distribution of the script.
-FTP the entire aMember folder to your public HTML directory in binary mode.
If you need help with this step it is best to contact your webhost.
-To use the Web Based Setup, browse to: http://www.yoursite.com/amember/setup.php
-Follow Web Based Setup script instructions;
-Once you get "Setup Finished" screen it is time to take care of the last
step – your initial setup.
Step #4 Initial setup.
-Go to the Admin page and Login.
-From the Main Menu on the left select aMember CP -> Setup/Configuration.
-aWeber suggests to start with the defaults and test first. Setup your
protection for protected areas. Just go to aMember CP -> Protect Folders and
follow instructions.
-Check your installation by testing your Signup Page http://www.yoursite.com/amember/signup.php
-If your test payment works, then continue on with the advanced
configuration options. There are a number of settings to configure
including:
-Site Title It must be a short string, like aMember Pro, Web Success Secrets
Club and so on
-Root URL must be automatically configured by aMember installation script.
Usually you should not change it.
-Generate Login / Generate Password Decide if you want to automatically
generate usernames and password for your customers, or not. Set
corresponding settings.
-Use Address Email will control displaying of address info (street, city,
state, zip code and country) on signup and user profile editing pages. You
can disable it, enable but not require, and both enable and require.
-Manage Products for each payment processor. Some payment processors do not
allow you change currency.
-Enable affiliate program decide if you wish to use affiliate program. If
you enable this, aMember CP -> Setup -> Affiliates configuration screen will
appear in the menu for detailed configuration.
Step #5 Click Save after changing your settings.
Step #6 Once you have payment process and protection set up and working
correctly then you may wish to customize some of the HTML templates.
They recommend customizing the following templates:
-amember/templates/header.html
-amember/templates/footer.html
-amember/templates/css/site.css
Step#7 You also need to tweak settings on your E-Mail page.
That’s it. You’re now ready to begin using your membership software.
