Garage Sale Business

Garage Sale or Yard Sale whatever you choose to call it is selling things that you or other people no longer want for a profit.

Garage sales are work - a lot of hard work, but the returns more than justify the effort. Whether it’s advertised as Patio, Carport, Yard, Porch, or Garage-a-Rama, people will come and buy. Clean out your closets and ANYTHING that is useless to you or you don’t want - put it in the sale. Don’t throw anything away. People will buy just about anything. You’d be surprised. What is one person’s trash is another’s GOLDMINE!

To use a garage sale as a reliable income, you will need to continually acquire more items that you can sell at a profit. You can find these items at other garage sales, flea markets, or even donated by neighbors, friends & family. Another great source of collecting items is to go to auctions & estate sales.

You can also look for storage facility auctions where someone has abandoned their items in a storage facility unit and the owner then auctions the entire contents off as a whole. These are a little more risky than other auctions since most of the time you don’t get to “preview” the contents prior to bidding. Also you are responsible for cleaning out the contents (good or bad) since it now belongs to you. However, more times than not, you can make your money back plus make a nice profit.

Supplies you will need include:

Cash box & plenty of small bills and change for making “change”.

Tables, racks and other display areas

Clothes line, rope or string to hang clothes or other long items

Markers, poster board or paper to make signs

Tags to mark your items with a price or color so you know what to charge.

Advertising ideas:

Newspapers

Internet sites

Flyers

Signs

Word-of-mouth.

If you hold your garage sales regularly on the same days/time each week/ month, people will begin to remember and automatically come to see what new things you have.
